With their automobile, Mythen, students from ETH Zurich and Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts have broken the previous record for the fastest electric vehicle acceleration, clocking it at 0.956 seconds to go from zero to hundred kilometers per hour over a distance of 12.3 meters. This record beats the previous record of 1.461 seconds held by a University of Stuttgart team, as verified by Guinness World Records.
Kate Maggetti drove the record attempt at a military airstrip near Duebendorf, Switzerland. Students worked closely together to develop and optimize every part of the automobile, including the chassis and batteries, which resulted in a lightweight vehicle that weighed about 140 kg (309 lbs).
